Gentle Bye: Kids Timer · Last updated: October 12, 2026
Overview
Gentle Bye helps parents choose videos, set a viewing limit, and guide a calm transition when time is up. No account is required. This policy explains the information used to provide and improve the app.
In short: We do not sell personal information, use advertising identifiers, or include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
Information We Collect
- Anonymous installation identifier: The app creates a random identifier and stores it in the iOS Keychain. It is used to authenticate the installation and associate its sessions. It is not your name, email address, Apple ID, or advertising identifier.
- Session configuration and activity: Selected YouTube video IDs and order, the viewing-time limit, the next activity chosen by the parent, watch and pause duration, completion reason, session extensions, video playback outcomes, and error codes.
- Optional parent feedback: If a parent chooses to respond after a session, we collect the selected rating and structured feedback about how the transition went.
- Technical information: App version, operating-system version, device category (phone or tablet), timestamps, and limited network information used for security, service operation, and rate limiting. Rate limits may use a hashed form of an IP address.
Gentle Bye does not ask for a parent’s or child’s name, email address, phone number, postal address, precise location, contacts, photos, camera, or microphone data.
Search and Video Playback
When a parent searches for a video, the search terms are sent through the Gentle Bye service to the YouTube Data API to return matching public videos. Gentle Bye does not intentionally store the search text as session data, although service providers may process request information under their own policies.
Video playback uses the official YouTube embedded player. YouTube may receive information such as the selected video, device or network information, and interactions with its player. Google’s handling of that information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and the YouTube Terms of Service.
How We Use Information
- To search for, validate, and play parent-selected videos.
- To operate timers, viewing sessions, transition reminders, and parent controls.
- To diagnose playback failures and maintain the reliability and security of the service.
- To understand aggregate session outcomes and improve the transition experience.
- To enforce service and YouTube API usage limits.
Storage and Service Providers
Gentle Bye’s service runs on Google Cloud. Anonymous device records and service metadata are stored in a cloud database, while session records are stored in private cloud storage. We use reasonable technical measures designed to protect this information.
Core service providers include:
- Google Cloud: Hosting, databases, and private storage for the Gentle Bye service.
- YouTube / Google: Video search, metadata, thumbnails, and embedded playback.
- Apple: iOS platform services, including Keychain and optional Face ID or Touch ID authentication. Biometric data is handled by iOS and is not received by Gentle Bye.
Children’s Privacy
Gentle Bye is designed for a parent or guardian to configure and supervise. The app does not ask a child to create an account or provide a name or contact information. Parents are responsible for selecting appropriate video content. If you believe a child’s personal information was submitted to us, contact us so we can investigate and delete it as appropriate.
Data Retention and Deletion
We retain installation and session information while it is reasonably needed to provide, secure, and improve Gentle Bye, or to meet legal obligations. To request deletion of data associated with your installation, email us at the address below. We may ask for limited information from the app or device to locate the anonymous record. Deletion requests do not control information independently held by YouTube, Google, or Apple.
Your Choices
Parent feedback is optional and can be skipped. You may stop using the app at any time and may request deletion of associated backend data by contacting us.
International Processing
Information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from those where you live.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
